Centre Philosophy
Here at Child’s Wonder, we welcome children, kaiako and whānau into a compassionate and respectful environment where we celebrate and value the culture and values of each individual in our kura.
We recognise that whānau are the child’s first teacher and we value and respect the unique knowledge and contributions of whānau in the decision making process around tamariki’s care and education. Parents will be encouraged and given opportunities to share within our community at Child’s Wonder.
Our philosophy is inspired through collaboration with whānau for aspirations for their child and family values, the voice of our tamariki, and our strong and dedicated teaching team of kaiako. Our pathway is Te Ara Whānui which is a bicultural pathway of Te Whāriki (The New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum) is the foundation of our Curriculum and we are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, which informs obligations to protect Māori culture and language, and to ensure the success of Māori children as Māori. Children’s cultural and language backgrounds are recognised and affirmed, and children are empowered to develop and strengthen positive learner identities.
Our Local Curriculum is Aroha for Others, Aroha for Ourselves and Aroha for our Environment supported by whānau aspirations, culture and values, and helps shape the language, curriculum and interactions within our centre in conjunction with Te Whāriki.
Our Curriculum is based on the Learning Focus of each child and provides tamariki with time to explore and discover and to make sense of the world around them. Children are encouraged to be respectful, kind and compassionate, finding joy and playfulness in every day.
Our dedicated teaching team provides high quality teaching and learning experiences through an environment where we value each other’s strengths and collective knowledge.
